New Testament Challenge – May 5

May 5 – Luke 22:1-20 – “this is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me” (Lk 22:19)

Love knows no boundaries. Love knows no restriction. It gives all. To the end. And Jesus gave me all His Love and all He was. But because Jesus was both human and divine, that giving of Himself has never ended. He gives me Himself. For me! For all! It’s not easy to understand the extent of such Love. And yet, it exists regardless of my understanding. All I need to do is to accept it and let it transform me.

As a disciple of Jesus, I have to start every day with the knowledge of being loved. My identity has been forever changed: “I am the beloved of God.” In Christ, God loves me unconditionally. He loves me to the point of giving His own body for me. And when I receive it, I am united to Him in such a way that I become more and more like Him. This is what Love desires: to be united with the beloved, to be one so that both, lover and beloved, are so united that nobody can tell them apart. What a responsibility to be loved in such a way. I must make sure that I will deepen my awareness of the importance of receiving Jesus’ body, and make sure that I will not take it lightly, nor unworthily. I am worth the blood of Jesus.
