April 30 – Luke 19:28-48 – “they [the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people] could find no way to accomplish their purpose because all the people were hanging on his words” (Lk 19:48)
What an interesting turn of events. “They” want to kill Jesus but they could not accomplish their plan because people were hanging on the words of Jesus. The action of the people – hanging on the words of Jesus – allowed Him to remain alive until the right time. What important details. I have never noticed it before.
As a disciple of Jesus, I must make sure that the plans of Jesus’ opponents will remain ineffective and not silence the message of the Gospel, and the power of the Cross. This can happen only if I remain grounded and hang on the words of Jesus, which means I continue to make those words “alive and living” in me. My living of the Gospel allows Jesus’ words to remain meaningful and continue to carry the Good News. If the enemy seems to be winning, could it be it’s because I am not hanging on the words of Jesus?
