New Testament Challenge – April 20

April 20 – Luke 13:10-35 – “When Jesus saw her, he called to her and said,” Woman, you are set free of your infirmity” (Lk 13:12)

I am touched by the fact that Jesus saw this woman. She is one of the invisible people who are always there. She was crippled and bent down. Jesus’ gaze reached her, and she became a different person. Not only she was healed, but she was transformed – from invisible to protagonist. And sadly, nobody rejoices because she was made whole. The leaders use her as a pawn to make their point.

As a disciple of Jesus, I must always look around and make sure that those who feel invisible become aware that they are also loved by God. His loving gaze reaches through the illnesses and loneliness and wants to make everybody whole, capable of standing – to be a human being fully alive. There are many such people. I am God’s gaze and touch, I must make sure that nobody feels abandoned by God.
