April 16 – Luke 11:33-54 – “Take care, then, that the light in you not become darkness” (Lk 11:35)
As a disciple of Jesus, I am called to grow. Growth is something I am responsible for doing. While I cannot grow without the proper conditions, I know that I cannot grow unless I make this choice and become an active agent of my own growth. As a Christian, my growth depends on Jesus: I have to become another Christ. He is the light of the world; I, a reflection of His. But that light is now in me. And just as the people at the time of Jesus believe, it is that light inside of me that will allow me to see clearly.
Light can become darkness only in one way: but letting something get in the way. Light becomes darkness when it is blocked, it is shielded by something else. Then, it is my responsibility to make sure that nothing will impact the Light that God placed in my soul. No matter what happens “outside” of me, nothing is strong enough to impact what is inside of me – God Himself. Nothing, unless I make it happen. Then, no more excuses, no more finger pointing, no more blaming others. I must take care of the gift God gave me and continue my journey that brings me constantly “out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (1 Pt 2:9)
